[News] iOS 6 Rumoured Jailbreak Release

20121221-185232.jpg
At a time when millions of iOS 6 users have been eagerly waiting for an untethered jailbreak for months now, an unknown hacker by the name of “Dream JB” has created a buzz among the jailbreak community by claiming that he will release an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 Dec. 22. The self-proclaimed hacker has even said that his untethered exploit will be compatible with newer iOS devices such as iPhone 5, iPad Mini, iPad 4 and the new iPod touch.

On 17th December 2012, the Dream JB (Dream Jailbreak) website was updated with a post outlining the progress of the claimed iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5. The hacker said that he would upload a video Wednesday, proving that the untethered jailbreak he created was real. Here’s what the post said:
“Proof will be posted both here and on my Twitter account on Wednesday. As far as the video that will be uploaded, it will be a single-take shot of the entire jailbreak process, including a restart and usage of the device to prove it is untethered. It will be uploaded as raw video straight from my camera to YouTube. So no edits in any form. Thank you all for your patience and support. Also, with the extremely high volume of tweets and over 4500 emails, I will try to address the public as I can. I ask that you read the FAQ before contacting me by email. I will update the FAQ for you all tomorrow morning. I’ve also moved past website updates to the bottom of the page. Goodnight everyone!

I should note that all announcements are made in EST time zone. As of now it’s 8:11 PM EST, proof should be out before 8 PM EST tomorrow.”

— Dream Jailbreak (@DreamJailbreak) December 12, 2012

According to the hacker, the new iOS 6 and 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak will support devices including iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad (2nd generation and beyond), iPad Mini and iPod touch (4th generation and beyond).

As per the FAQ page provided by the Dream JB website, the jailbreak will be a one-click process and will differ from the previous jailbreak methods using “Webkit exploit” and “userland exploit.” The hacker clearly stated that “any device that normally supports iOS 6.0/6.0.1 is supported by the jailbreak,” meaning A6 devices are included.

Meanwhile, Dream JB’s claims regarding the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak have raised a lot of skepticisms around the tech world, with prominent jailbreak developers of the iPhone Dev Team and the Chronic Dev Team denouncing it as yet another elaborate gambit of a hoaxer.

While well-known iOS hacker MuscleNerd has put Dream Jailbreak on his list of “fake” jailbreaks, another renowned jailbreak developer Joshua Hill aka @p0sixninja criticized it saying “they’re all fake.”

No matter how many times we say “They’re all fake” no one ever listens….. *sigh*

— Joshua Hill (@p0sixninja) December 8, 2012

iOS hacker iH8sn0w, on the other hand, too to his Twitter account saying: “Never trust anyone who has never released anything credible in the past.”

He further urged the users to be very careful about fake jailbreak websites. “Don’t get your hopes up,” he tweeted, “But also don’t just download anything.. it seems like a very smart thing to do to distribute a new virus.”

Jeff Benjamin of iDownloadBlog said in a post Tuesday that any claim about an iOS jailbreak that lacked word from respectable members of the Chronic Dev Team or the iPhone Dev Team was “almost always fake.”

“Suppose an iPhone 5 jailbreak does drop on the 22nd, and it does work? If so, I will happily apologize to the man behind the Dream JB, and create a post outlining how wrong I was for lumping his project in with all of the other fakes that we’ve seen over the years,” Benjamin wrote.

“This guy claims that he’s a ‘one man army,’ which is fine. But explain to me why it took a literal Dream Team of talented hackers to orchestrate the last Absinthe jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1?” he added.

Dream JB describes himself:

“My identity will remain an obscurity. I am not affiliated with any known dev team. This project is individual and solely run by me alone. I am here to show the world that the source of an exploit or jailbreak can be from outside the norm.”

According to him, he is a university student, currently in the middle of writing his final exams. However, he says although he has his priorities, he does his best “to keep you all in the loop with the timeline of events and the release.”

[Guide] Take Gaming To The Next Level On your iPod,iPhone or iPad

All of us are pretty much satisfied with the gaming experience on our iDevices.Games like Temple Run, Angry Birds, Subway Surfer and others have made having iDevices enjoyable.Still, the Gaming on iPods and iPads is still not comparable to our good old PCs.

Quake 3 is one of the most popular first person shooters in the world. It kind of revolutionized FPS games. And now it has made its way to jailbroken iPhone and iPod Touch via Cydia. Obviously, this game can’t be played as well on iDevices as on a PC, but never the less, it’s available, and that counts for something.

To get Quake 3 –

1. Go To Cydia.(You Must Be Jailbroken)
2. Just Type Quake in the search box.
3. Download Quake 3 arena.. Size is about 45 MB
The game was ported on all iDevices.

The Game is still undergoing Development but it is still playable.

[Tutorial] How To Jailbreak A4 Devices On iOS 6.

The iPhone dev team have updated Redsn0w, adding full support for final public release of iOS 6 on select devices with official version of Cydia, along with tons of new features which are detailed after the jump.

Redsn0w 0.9.15b1 for both Windows and Mac not only adds support for tethered jailbreak of iOS 6 on A4 based devices, but also for re-restoring and downgrading of select devices from iOS 6 to an older firmware, or in case of re-restoring, from iOS 5.x to iOS 5.x.

Supported devices:

First and foremost, it is important to note this is a tethered jailbreak and is only meant for devices boasting an A4 Processor (or below), namely: the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the 4th-gen iPod Touch. Devices with A5 (iPhone 4S, iPad 2), A5X (iPad 3) and A6 (iPhone 5) processors are not supported at this point. Hacktivation + baseband preservation support has also been added for iPhone 4 and 3GS.

This latest version of Redsn0w does not require the user to go through the trouble of downloading and pointing the app to the iOS 6 IPSW for the jailbreak (the older version of Redsn0w, as mentioned in our previous jailbreak iOS 6 guide, required manual IPSW selection). Instead, the latest Redsn0w recognizes the firmware already installed on your device, downloads the required files and proceeds with the jailbreak. It’s that simple. Cydia, as mentioned above, is now also included as part of this Redsn0w’s release.

Jailbreaking is done in the same way as it is done with iOS 5.

Note for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS Ultrasn0w unlockers: You will first need to preserve your older baseband to be eligible for unlock. Click on “Extras” option and then select “Custom IPSW” option. Select the required iOS 6 IPSW file for your device, and let Redsn0w make the custom firmware for you. Once done, enter Pwned DFU mode by selecting “Pwned DFU” from Redsn0w’s Extras option, and then restore to this custom firmware.

How to boot your device tethered on iOS 6:

Since this is a tethered iOS 6 jailbreak, you will need to boot your device in a tethered mode every time the device is turned off and back on. Booting in tethered mode is easy, and can be achieved using Redsn0w: click on the “Extras” from the main screen and then simply click on “Just Boot” option. Follow the on-screen instructions. Once done, you will be rebooted back into tethered-jailbreak mode.

What’s new in Redsn0w 0.9.15b2?

New re-restore features have also been introduced in this version of Redsn0w. It now allows third-gen iPad and iPhone 4S users to RE-restore to any version of iOS 5.x even if Apple is currently not signing the software, provided that your SHSH blobs are saved for iOS 5.x, and the device is currently running iOS 5.x (not iOS 6) that too updated via iTunes, not OTA. iPad 2 users will also be able to downgrade if they have blobs for both 4.x and 5.x saved – even from iOS 6. The A4 based iPhone 4, 3GS and 4th-gen iPod Touch users can of course always downgrade to an older firmware for untethered jailbreak provided that they have SHSH blobs saved for the firmware they want to downgrade on.

[Guide] How To Speed Up A Jailbroken iPhone/iPod or iPad

Tired of waiting for Apple to release the next iPhone to experience faster speeds? Luckily, there’s an app for that. Well, at least there is if you are using a jailbroken device.

Found under the BigBoss repo (You need not add it) is :

Speed Intensifier : It is a 2-part tweak that can speed up your iPhone’s performance by shortening or completely removing iOS animations. These transitional animations typically happen when you open a folder or window, and can really slow you down as you bounce between apps…

This tweak is similar to the FakeClockUp package , but there are some differences. This extension actually has 2 separate installs. One for your Settings.app and the other is a Winterboard add-on.

The tweak actually cancels all the animations that come preloaded on your iDevice. for e.g. The Jiggling Icons when you press and hold them, etc.

Both files can be found in the insanelyi.com repo. For folks who don’t have the source installed already, just navigate to your Manage tab in Cydia, select Sources, and add “http://repo.insanelyi.com.”

Once the new repository is installed, do a search for Speed Intensifier. You should see the app as well as the Speed Intensifier Addon. I recommend installing both of these, as the add-on compliments the main application quite well.

The add-on’s description states that it breaks the limitations that Apple imposes on the device to save your battery. It will make your iPhone’s processors operate as if it is plugged into the wall charging.

Speed Intensifier is adjustable from your Settings app, where you can change the speed of the tweak, as well as disable it. The add-on should show up in Winterboard as 3 options: SI Underclock, Si Speedup, and Si overclock!

[Tutorial] How To Downgrade HTC Legend From Android v2.2 to v2.1 (100% Working With Hboot 1.01)

Note: This is to be done at your own risk; I am not responsible for any damage or harm caused by this process. Also, all the commands that you have to type have been written down in ‘bold’.

The HTC Legend is the hardest thing I’ve ever rooted. It took me about 8 straight hours to find the right way to downgrade and another 2 hours to root it. This article is just gonna show you how you can downgrade.

Please Follow the Instructions Carefully.

Items Required :
1.  HTC Legend
2. 1 MicroSD Card (Gold Card).Use this procedure to make one
3. 1 Micro USB Cable
4. Full Charge Recommended
5. Windows OS (I used Windows 7) – Recommended but not necessary.

Downloads and installations required :
1. Android SDK installed
2. hack4legend-v5.zip
3. RUU 1.31 for Legend
4. VISIONary+ apk file (Install it to your phone like you would install any other .apk file after downloading)

It’s recommended that you back up Data first —>>

1. Contacts:  You can save you’re contacts from you’re legend by clicking contacts, menu, import/export and export to SD Card.

2. SMS: Get the SMS Backup and Restore App form Market, Install and Save it on to the SD Card.

3. Backup Complete SD Card: Copy all the contents of the SD Card and save it onto the PC.

Procedure

Step 1 –  Install Android SDK (If you don’t have it already) on your PC/Mac and then Extract hack4legend-v5.zip to your C Drive.

Step 2 – Move the files contained in hack4legend-v5.zip into your sdk/platform-tools directory so your pushes will work properly.

FOR ALL OS’s Make sure your phone has Applications->Development->USB Debugging turned on.Do NOT have your phone in Disk Drive Mode, have it in Charge Only.

Open a terminal window in your platform-tools directory and type these commands –

crackin.sh (For Mac/Linux) or crackin.bat (For Windows)

Your phone will reboot 5 times and you WILL see several error messages.Don’t worry. It’s all normal.

If the last error you get looks like this, ‘ c—rw—- 1 1001 2002 90, 0 Jul 19 16:19 /dev/mtd/mtd0′ then you’re all set to move on to the next step otherwise keep trying by either resetting phone to factory settings or by making  a new gold card.

Step 3 – Install VISIONary+ on your phone using the .apk provided above (if you already haven’t).Then,’Temproot’ your phone.Once you are temprooted, connect via ‘adb’ and type the following commands –

su (to get root)

/data/local/flash_image misc /data/local/misc1-2.img

Step 4 – Run the RUU (like any other .exe) you downloaded earlier to downgrade to version 2.1 – it should be possible to do so now.

For rooting your device check out this post.

Now that you’ve downgraded your legend to Android 2.1,just root it the normal way.

[Direct Links] Absinthe 2.0 iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Now Available For Download!

Absinthe logo

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, we have hit that time once again  in the jailbreak cycle when we can all breathe a huge sigh of relief and raise a glass to the jailbreak producers while we overload their servers attempting to download the new and shiny utility that will provide our devices with freedom. Yes, that is right, I am indeed talking about downloading Absinthe 2.0, the latest version of the Chronic Dev Team tool that brings an untethered jailbreak to the majority of our iOS 5.1.1 devices.

We have found ourselves in an all too familiar situation over the last couple of months, stuck in limbo between wanting to update to the latest official firmware, but not knowing when or indeed if a functional jailbreak would be released. Keeping history in mind, we should be able to rest easy in the fact that researchers such as Pod2g have always managed to escape the securities put in place by Apple to bring a jailbreak to the masses, but there will always remain a small part within us that has doubts each time Apple pushes a new version of iOS.

With work on the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak being finished and satisfactorily tested, the team involved have included the files and exploits in a new version of the Chronic Dev Team’s Absinthe tool that was introduced to us as a jailbreak solution for iOS 5.0.1. One of the main benefits of the tool is the extreme simplicity of the interface, with user guidance being provided all the way through and only involving a few clicks to get the job done.

As confirmed by iPhone Dev Team leader MuscleNerd, the 5.1.1 jailbreak will also be available through the use of the tried and tested Redsn0w tool as well as an updated version of the command line interface cinject binary. We already know that a large number of users prefer the familiar interface that the Redsn0w tool offers, but for those who aren’t stuck on familiarity and want to go down the route of using Absinthe for its rather cool and edgy sounding name as well as the simple and intuitive interface, then it is officially available to download now!

Compatible devices for iOS 5.1.1 untether:

  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPad (3rd Gen) [Doesn’t work for iPad 2,4 yet]
  • iPad 2
